Sophie's gone
October... 23rd...was Sophie's last day.. She had been with me since her rescue from Katrina and Rita.. She came September 30th.. I have no idea how she survived..She only weighed 14 pounds, dirty, weak, infected eyes, feet, belly, and barely had hair. The vets thought she was a pomerian.. one said maybe american eskimo. She turned out to be correct. We worked hard to get her to eat and heal all her sores. She improved but couldn't hole food down. A month of trying to get her to eat and gain some weight to no avail.. We did a dental cleaning and examine under anesthesia.. She had a large rt molar in three pieces removed.. Teeth clean and found a mass in her abdomen.. We did exploratory surgery.. Yes cecum cancer.. But, we worked with good diet and exercise and she survived..
About April of this year things got worse.. She ate but with much coaxing.. She walked but less and less.. Her lungs filled with fluid.. Heart failure ..we medicated and medicated.. But, she played with her two buddies.. chloe and french fry.. But, the past two weeks things got worse.. She didn't want to go out with her pack.. They didn't want to leave her alone.. Finally I gave in to the inevitable.. She went down quickly .. After she had passed .. The vets found another tumor in her abdomen.. Her chest and abdomen were filling with fluid.. I am glad I didn't push her any farther.. She did not deserve to suffer.. She had lots of fun here.. Trips to McAlpin to my friends farm.. Trips to Tallahassee.. Lots of long walks and she knew everyone in the neighborhood and wasn't afraid of any dog.. She told them she was the alpha dog and follow her lead. She will be missed.
It is so quiet around here without her antics.. Feeding time for chloe and french fry seems too easy.. No pills .. no special menu to entice sophie to eat.. But, life changes.. She was a great companion.. She will sure be missed..
I will return to quilting now..
